July 2014 | Meeting Minutes

The (SGR) meeting was held on July 17th 2014 at 1pm at the Old GERS Building in Orange Grove. The meeting was chaired by its president, Mary Moorhead.

Alice Wise, Vice President of the Organization, led the prayers.
Attendance: Forty-three retirees and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
Minutes: Secretary Abdul R. Ali read the minutes and following the reading Maria Ballentine made a motion that the minutes be accepted as read. Betty Wilson seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.

Correspondence:

A letter providing the names of persons interested in the Financial Literacy Training was forwarded to the GERS representative Ms. Morton.

GERS Report:

Miguel Nico provided a brief report on the GERS meeting that he attended. The report focused on the ongoing plans to sell Carambola.

Financial Report:

Treasurer Hodge stated that a current balance exists of $3239.75 and further, that $428.00 was collected during the June 2014 meeting.

Old Business:

(Legislative Taskforce) Mary Moorhead said that no meeting date had been set. (Bill 30-0125) The bill that deals with the offsetting of property taxes with retro wages owed was included in one of the senate hearings. Mary Roebuck made a motion that a letter be sent to the Avis outlining the property taxes/retro plan. Gladys Rissing seconded the motion. 20 persons voted in favor of the motion and 13 were opposed. There were no abstentions. The motion passed.
