Matters Arising… There were no matters arising from the minutes.
Correspondence… Debbie Christopher read a copy of a letter from Mary Moorhead to Sen. Clifford Graham (Finance Chair) pertaining to the fact that the St. Croix Government Retirees Inc. was unable to attend a hearing re Bill 31-0169. Moorhead also indicated in the letter that it was unfair to ask the GERS to supply an annual written delinquency notice to each contributor (employee/employer) because the record-keeping and employee contributions is the responsibility of the Div. of Personnel and the Dept. of Finance. She said that she felt that the Bill 31-0169 was being designed to shift responsibilities and that it was not in the best interest of the system (GERS) that is struggling at present.
Reports… (Finance) Ms. Hodge, the Treasurer reported that there was a balance of $ 4,039.81 in the bank.
Newspaper Article…( St. Croix Avis) Both Debbie Christopher and Miguel Nico Sr. made reference to an article in the Avis in which they were featured. The article referenced the fact that monies that should have been paid into the GERS had not in fact been paid. The reference was to Act 7261 and what it mandates, which is in essence, that the GERS is to receive $7 million dollars annually from the USVI Government and that the start date was to have been in 2013.
Any Other Business… (Cancer Registry) Debbie Christopher announced that the cancer registry was now up and running and that a cancer tracking system exists.
Adjournment… the meeting was adjourned at 2.45 pm.
