GERS Retiree Special Election Results
Good day,
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
St. Croix, VI -
The Administrator of the Government Employees’ Retirement System (GERS) is pleased to announce that Stephen K. Cohen, DDS has been selected as the retiree to complete the term of former Trustee Judge Edgar Ross through 2020, who resigned for personal reasons, effective March 31, 2017.
There were three (3) applicants for the Special Election including Dr. Cohen. Former Senator, Adelbert M. Bryan, was disqualified as he did not meet the educational requirements in accordance with Title 3 Chapter 27 V.I.C. Section 718(a) (2). The third applicant, Adel D. Allen, M.D., was also disqualified because she did not submit the required completed petition by the deadline date and time.
Consequently, as stated in Election Procedures II (A), “If only one (1) candidate has been nominated for the position by petition, there shall be no election. The candidate shall take office as if elected.”
We thank all candidates for their interest and willingness to serve, and extend congratulations to Dr. Cohen on his successful bid. We look forward to his dedicated and committed service to the GERS Board of Trustees.
