BRYAN/ROACH TO HOST TOWN HALL MEETINGS
ABOUT PLAN TO RESOLVE GERS CRISIS
St. Croix---The Bryan/Roach Team will host two town hall meetings next week to present their plan for resolving the crisis threatening the solvency of the Virgin Islands Government Employees Retirement System. The meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, June 6, at Gertrude’s Restaurant, St. Croix and Thursday, June 7, at Walker’s by the Sea Restaurant, St. Thomas. Both sessions begin at 6 p.m.
Albert Bryan, Jr. and Senator Tregenza Roach are running for Governor and Lt. Governor in the August 4, Democratic Party primary race.
According to Bryan, three years after voting in the current administration, seniors and their retirement system are now owed two billion dollars. GERS studies have determined that the system could fold even before the projected year 2023. “The team understands that retired civil servants of the Virgin Islands and their families deserve better. We have a realistic plan that will provide retirees with the financial support they need while strategically expanding the resources of our government.” The candidates will also welcome questions, ideas and suggestions from the attendees, said Bryan.
The meeting is open to retirees, current employee members of the system, and individuals in the private sector who are concerned about the catastrophic effects a collapsed system will have across the territory, concluded Bryan.
